Guidelines for Poster Competition

Purpose

The IEEE ISSST 2010 Student Poster Competition is sponsored by the Sustainable Systems and Technology Technical Committee of the IEEE Computer Society to honor outstanding posters created and presented by students in the field of sustainable systems and technology at the ISSST Poster Session. While the Poster Session is open to all symposium participants, the session is particularly suited to students as an opportunity to share scholarly work as a visual display, even in its early stages, to practice presenting, and to interact with colleagues and gather feedback.

Prizes

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three posters.  Posters will be evaluated on three areas by several judges: content, visual appearance, and oral presentation.  Content refers to the quality of the research presented on the poster.  Visual appearance is the organization and layout of the content on the poster and the effectiveness of conveying the content.  Oral presentation is the effectiveness of the presenter at verbally explaining the content on the poster; this requires the presenter to be standing next to the poster throughout the poster session.  All three areas will be weighted equally. Gifts will be provided for all poster session participants (first authors only).

Competition Eligibility

Any first author student who has an abstract accepted for the ISSST Poster Session is automatically entered into the Student Poster Competition, unless he/she does not wish to participate in the competition. To be eligible for the competition, the first author must be a student on or after January 1, 2010.

Poster Session Details

Posters will be mounted on foam core posterboards that are 36" x 48" (3/16" thick), which will be mounted on easels.  Supplies will be provided for mounting posters to the posterboards.  Posters being considered for the student poster competition must be the size of the posterboard or smaller (i.e., you may not bring a larger board and participate in the competition).
