The ISSST 2012 features the following plenary speakers:

 

 Tim Gutowski Timothy G. Gutowski is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, USA. He was the Director of MIT’s Laboratory for Manufacturing and Productivity (1994-2004), and the Associate Department Head for Mechanical Engineering (2001-2005).  From 1999 to 2001 he was the chairman of the National Science Foundation and Department of Energy panel on Environmentally Benign Manufacturing. He has over 150 technical publications, two books and seven patents and patent applications. His books are: “Thermodynamics and the Destruction of Resources” Cambridge University Press 2011  (with Bhavik R. Bakshi and Dusan P. Sekulic) and  “Advanced Composites Manufacturing”, John Wiley, 1997. His research interests focus on the relationship between manufacturing and sustainability at various scales.
 Sarah Brown Sarah Brown has been an environmental advocate in her community for the last 13 years. She has served on Kittery's Town Council and the Zoning Board of Appeals. Sarah created Kittery Progressive Action. She also formed St. John's Stewardship of the Earth Committee in Portsmouth. In 2009 Brown founded the Green Alliance, a green business union and sustainable consumers buying club that helps businesses and consumers make greener choices. The Green Alliance is a dedicated sustainability coordinator, guerilla PR firm and unique BtoB operation that connects consumers with environmentally conscious businesses. At nearly 3,000 consumer members the GA advocates around greener choices and helps to grow the green economy in NH, Me and Ma.  Before moving to the Seacoast, Brown worked for 5 years as a journalist in Moscow, Russia for CNN, BBC, NBC and the Associated Press. Pre-Russia she worked at CNN's New York bureau. Brown has a degree in Russian Studies from Columbia University.

ISIE Future Faculty Workshop:  This session will provide an opportunity for current graduate students to hear from a panel of young faculty members about their experience transitioning from being a student to a becoming a professional faculty member. There will be time for students to ask panel members questions about their experiences and/or advice on student challenges.
